The Christianity of influence: Are you a Christian or a Hisstian? – Part 1
Christianity is a call to influence the society for God. Many church goers and Christian religious leaders in the world today live their lives in a manner that makes people around them hiss and be repelled from God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
God put us here and commanded us to have Dominion. Jesus followed it up by saying “let your light so shine before men (not before the Church), that they may see your good works (character and impact) and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
I want to use the word Hisstian (replacing the word ‘Chris’ in Christian with ‘Hiss’ [an expression of disapproval]) to represent everyone who claims to be a Christian but who is not attracting people to Christ because of living without any impact on the society.
It represents those believers whose lifestyles and ideologies make Christianity appear as a stinking sect because they lack knowledge. Instead of causing people to love Christ they rather cause people to hate the gospel. Believers are called as light of the world and the salt of the earth. And as such, not to be religiously restricted within the confines of the church in their minds, attitudes and sphere of impact.
Hear Bishop David Oyedepo in his book Ruling your world: “… We have been clapping and clapping. The Church will soon lose relevance unless we become contributors to the society we live in. Your clapping will soon become a nuisance, unless you are adding value to your community.”
He also continued by saying, “Remember, we are not the light of the Church;
we are the light of the world!
We are not the salt of the Church;
we are the salt of the earth.
We are to get back there and influence those places through inspired ideas. And the question is, “how can we influence our world as Christians?”
First step towards answering this question is to know that Christianity is never a call to please any Church denomination. Yes! If you are bound and obsessed with a desire to please your denomination while the world around you records no impact of your presence on earth, then you are not a Christian rather you are a Hisstian (people hiss because of you and speak against your Christianity).
If nobody benefits from your kind of Christianity because your denomination is more important to you than the Kingdom of God and the commands of Jesus Christ, then you are not a Christian but a Hisstian.
If your denominational belief and doctrine stops you from reigning as a King and Star in your career, profession or market place, then you are not a Christian but a Hisstian. Yes! You are a full time Hisstian if your manner of life makes people around you to hiss and reject whatever gospel you represent.
Before we continue: are you actually a Christian or are you a Hisstian? To be continued…
