In a world going ‘fast and furious’, where everything is optimised for on-the-go solutions; where everything’s fast- fast cars, ultra-fast internet connections, fast food is not left out! You hear people say things like; “let’s go grab a lunch, a drink etc”. Owners of fast food companies have become millionaires and even billionaires! In the midst of all these, how does one eat healthy? “But where’s the time?” some argue.
It is true that food should be delicious and satisfying. But let’s not forget the-all-important aspect of food-nutrition.
Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism’s cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth. (“Food”. Encyclopædia Britannica.)
From the ongoing, it can be seen that food should not just satisfy the appetite or just fill the stomach, but more importantly, it should be nourishing to the body. To achieve this, food should contain the essential nutrients.
